Accessing the Workforce Study Dataset
In January 2007, the NASW Workforce Research Advisory Workgroup Committee approved the next phase of the workforce study project by allowing data from the study to be released to pre-approved candidates for research purposes.
The survey for the workforce study was sent in 2004 to 10,000 licensed social workers drawn from licensure lists from 48 states and the District of Columbia. The response rate was nearly 50 percent. The dataset contains 4,436 cases. Variables in the dataset range from state or states selections to gender, income levels and age. The survey is divided into six categories: demographic background, social work practice, services to clients, workplace issues, services to older adults and services to children.
If you are interested in using the dataset, please complete the application on the workforce Web site. Applicants are also required to sign a Conditions for the Use of the Data Agreement and a Dataset Limitations Form. Approved applicants will receive a CD with the requested data, along with a codebook. The data are provided in SPSS format.
The Center for Workforce Studies encourages approved users of the dataset to share their findings with the Center, although they are not required to do so. Please contact the Center for Workforce Studies at 202-336-8288 if you have any questions.
